ATS Resume Checker for Accountants (2026)

Accounting is a precise profession, and the screening software treats it that way. Over 90% of large employers filter resumes with applicant tracking systems, and finance postings screen on exact standards, processes, and systems: GAAP, month-end close, variance analysis, NetSuite. If your resume says "processed vendor invoices" where the posting says "accounts payable," or "closed the books" where it says "month-end close," the software counts the skill as missing — and roughly 75% of resumes never make it past that count.

3 resume tips for accountants

  1. Name the standard and the system, exactly. GAAP or IFRS, QuickBooks or NetSuite or SAP — screening software searches for the proper noun, not "accounting software" or "reporting standards." Spell out CPA once as "Certified Public Accountant (CPA)" so both forms match.
  2. Describe the process by its standard name. "Month-end close," "reconciliation," "variance analysis," "accounts payable" — the industry's terms are what the posting uses and what recruiters keyword-search. Translate your day-to-day into that vocabulary wherever it's true.
  3. Quantify the books. Dollar volume you reconciled, entities or accounts you owned, days you cut from the close, audit findings you resolved. Concrete numbers are what separate an accountant's resume from a bookkeeper's job description.
