ATS Resume Checker for Teachers (2026)

School districts increasingly route applications through online hiring portals that screen by keyword before a principal or hiring committee sees them — the same applicant tracking software that filters roughly 75% of resumes in the private sector. Teaching resumes get cut because they describe classroom results in everyday language while the screener searches for methodology terms: you wrote "adapted lessons for every learner," the posting says "differentiated instruction."

3 resume tips for teachers

  1. Use the methodology's name, not a description of it. "Differentiated instruction," "formative assessment," "IEP accommodations" — if the posting uses the term and your resume paraphrases it, the screener counts it as missing.
  2. Give your license and endorsements their own section. State teaching license, grade bands, and subject endorsements, spelled exactly as your state names them, with the abbreviation once (e.g. "Individualized Education Program (IEP)"). Screeners and HR staff search both forms.
  3. Quantify the classroom. Class sizes, number of IEPs managed, measured growth on assessments, attendance or behavior improvements, programs you built and how many students they reached. Numbers make a teaching resume rank — and get remembered.
